Bernard Snell, Governance Chair of Macon RBI, is an Assistant U.S. Attorney focused on bankruptcy and civil defense cases in Georgia’s Middle District.

Personal Life: I am married and have three adult daughters. I am actively involved with church and community service organizations and projects, e.g., 2000-2001 President of the Bibb County Georgia Mentors Project; 2001 President of Macon Little League Baseball/Softball; Member, Macon Little League Board of Directors, 1990 to present; Member, 2008 to present, Executive Board of Directors, Central Georgia Boy Scouts; Member, 2010 to 2018, Board of Directors, United Way of Central Georgia; Board Member, Middle Georgia Youth Association, 2005 to present; Member, Judicial Council, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME-NationalConnectional), 2004-2012, Clerk of Council, 2015 to 2022, President, Chief Justice, Judicial Council, 2022 to present; CME Church Membership, Sixth Episcopal District, Central Georgia Region, Joint Board of Finance, Pension Clerk; Recipient of numerous community service/church and church related awards.

Employment: Assistant District Attorney, Chatham County, Georgia District Attorney’s Office, Eastern Judicial Circuit (June 1984-May 1986) Assistant City Attorney, City of Macon, Georgia, (June 1986 to January,1988) Assistant United States Attorney, Middle District of Georgia (January 1988 to Present) As an Assistant United States Attorney, I have served as attorney in charge of the Financial Litigation Unit (FLU), the designated Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Coordinator, and one of two Assistant United States Attorneys handling bankruptcy cases. Additionally, I handle immigration and general civil defense cases. In the past, I have served as a bankruptcy training instructor for the U. S. Department of Justice teaching training courses to attorneys and support staff. While serving as the FLU Attorney, FLU was the recipient of the U. S. Department of Justice 1995 Crime Victims Fund Award, presented by Attorney General Janet Reno. 

In 2012, I was appointed to serve as Civil Division Chief, Middle District of Georgia, and served in that capacity until January, 2021, where I managed 7 Assistant United States Attorneys and 10 support staff, while maintaining a full bankruptcy case load as well as assisting with immigration cases. Currently, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, I handle all bankruptcy cases for the Macon and Athens Divisions and a designated number of general civil defense cases for the Middle District of Georgia.
